Dec. 16th, 2012 09:44 amThere's a skunk underneath my house. Again. I'm just dreading having to deal with this last time after a previous skunk incident a couple years ago.
It started the same way it's starting now, with that hideous stench in our bathroom. Apparently this one is holing up in the same place.... But then in the middle of the night one night David and I got woken up by a baby skunk wandering around our bedroom. And we frightened it. Yeah. Pleasant. It had gotten in through ductwork in the heater and out through one of the vents that wasn't installed very well.
So we had a whole stinky family to deal with and the air in the house was completely saturated with their stench. We called Vexcon, the same people that have their own reality TV show, Billy the Exterminator, because they are very humane (they capture and release), have a great reputation around here, and if they film the job at your place their service is free. (They didn't film our little adventure though. They said they already had enough skunk stories.) They did a great job. They knew exactly where to set the trap and Mamma was caught after a couple of days. (And their who crew really does wear those goth getups. Lol! I even met Billy. Haha) I saw her, she stamped her feet at me when she saw me, nasty thing. They caught two babies and it seemed like after awhile that's all there was.
But a few days afterward, the smell started getting worse. We found out that there was one more baby skunk that had gotten trapped somewhere no one could find it and had died. So the smell of skunk which hadn't left, was augmented by the smell of decomposing skunk. I really can't describe the smell. It smelled like pure evil, that all I can say. It was a couple of months before our house smelled normal and the experience was so distressing it made me cry so much.:(... Oh, God, please don't let this end up the same way. I don't know why this is happening again but this is SO not cool.
